A trip to the violin shop should be your child's first experience with playing a musical instrument. When selecting an instrument, students are carefully measured to ensure a proper fit. When a child outgrows his or her instrument, we will exchange it for the next size at no charge. At Johnson's, renting an instrument is a pleasant and positive experience with the utmost attention paid to the comfort of the child.
Four rental options that make renting the right instrument for your child easy, affordable, and rewarding:
Standard Rental Option
All of our Standard Rental instruments are maintained beyond MENC standards for quality, sound and playability.
Advanced Rental Option
The Advanced Rentals are a group of new or antique violins and cellos in the 1/8 - 4/4 size. This is an excellent chance for players to enjoy the benefits of a more expensive instrument without making a huge investment.
Master Rental Option
The Master Rentals are high quality instruments suitable for professionals or those looking for a finely crafted instrument with a full, rich sound. Sizes available include 1/8-4/4 violins, 13"-16.5" violas, and 1/4-4/4 cellos. Many Master Rentals are selected from our Sales Department. Brands include but are not limited to Mueller, Haide, Doetsch, and Eastman 305. Note Master Cellos may be available in very limited numbers. Please call to inquire about availability.
School Rental Programs
Johnson's offers a convenient and cost-effective school rental program. Please inquire for pricing and delivery information.
Highest Quality Instruments
Each instrument is tested for tonal quality and is maintained by expert craftspeople in our shop. Care is taken at all levels to ensure that each instrument is in top playing condition. We have a professional repair shop dedicated to maintaining our instrument stock.
Comprehensive Insurance
Comprehensive insurance is provided for every Johnson's rental instrument. We personally insure the instruments against theft and major catastrophe. General repairs, including bridge work, pegs, fingerboards, and cracks are covered, as well as bow repair. In addition, we replace broken strings at no charge.
Rent to Own or Rent to Purchase
While renting you will accumulate either:
Equity* to be applied toward the purchase of the instrument you are renting (or one like it),
or
A Purchase Discount to be applied toward the purchase of an instrument from our Sales Department.
*Equity rates vary depending on the rental and purchase option that you choose.
Equity or Purchase Discount calculation
100% of your first year's rent can be applied toward the purchase of your rental instrument or any instrument from our Rental or Sales Departments. After the first year, customers are allowed to use an additional 20% of their rental fees towards the purchase of any instrument from Johnson's Rental or Sales Departments.
Shipping and Delivery
Our customers are located throughout the United States and beyond. We ship rental instruments anywhere in the United Sates, and we offer free delivery services for groups of twenty or more throughout New England.
